The Power BI - Quiz report

Overview and purpose

In this report, we lay out important information like average scores, how many learners pass or fail, and which questions might be trickier than others. We present all this through clear and easy-to-understand  visuals, like pie charts and bar graphs, so you don't need to be a data expert to make sense of it all.

We'll walk you through what each part of the report means and why it matters. By the end, you'll have a good idea of which areas your learners excel in and where they might need some extra help. With this understanding, you can make better decisions about how to teach and what areas to focus on.

Whether you're fine-tuning a lesson plan or checking in on your program's success, this report is your go-to for making informed decisions that help improve learning outcomes.

 

Report structure

The reports offer an interactive and engaging way to visualize and analyze quiz performance data, emphasizing ease of use and insightful analytics. Here's a breakdown of the structure and elements.

 

Filters and slicers

Filters and slicers allow you to view only the data you're interested in. They are consistent across most pages, so you can apply the same filters as you navigate through different sections of the report.

 

How to apply filters

Single-Select Filters. Indicated by circular radio buttons, allowing you to select one option.

Multi-Select Filters. Indicated by square buttons. Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) to select multiple options.

Mandatory and Optional Filters. Mandatory filters are labeled with "Select" and must be set to display data. Optional filters are labeled with "Filter."

 

Common filters across all pages

Filter By Catalog(s), Course(s), Quiz(zes) and/ or Users: Choose one or more of these filters to only see data related to selections.

 

NOTE   

The availability and content of data in the filters may vary by page depending on the data provided.

 

Instructions for use

This report includes various charts and graphs that help you understand the data through visual  representations. You can interact with visuals in a couple of different ways.

Viewing Details. Simply move your mouse over any part of a chart or graph. A small box will appear, showing you more specific information, like numbers or percentages, related to the part you are hovering over.

Drilling Down. If you want to see more detailed data about a particular section of a chart, such as a slice of a pie chart or a bar in a bar graph, just click on it. This action will "drill down," which means it will open more detailed information about that section and change the data displayed on the entire page based on your selection.

The splash page introduces the Zensai Quiz Report, setting the tone with its clean design and an engaging image of a user interacting with the report.

The Splash Page features several buttons, each leading to a specific section of the report:

  • Overview. Summarizes the overall quiz data and trends.
  • Performance Over Time. Analyzes how quiz performances change over a period.
  • User. Focuses on individual user performance and details.
  • Department. Breaks down quiz data by department.
  • Course. Provides insights based on specific courses.
  • Quiz Statistics. Offers detailed statistical data about quiz results.
  • Quiz Attempt Details. Delves into specific attempts made by users on quizzes.
  • Quiz Information. Gives general information about the quizzes covered in the report.

To navigate to any section, click on the corresponding button. Each button is clearly labeled according to the section it leads to, making it easy to move through the report seamlessly.

 

Overview page

 

 

Overview

The Overview page provides a comprehensive snapshot of quiz performance metrics across your organization. This page is designed to facilitate a quick assessment of overall quiz effectiveness, individual quiz details, and trends over time.

 

How it works

This page aggregates data from multiple quizzes to present key performance indicators (KPIs), quiz attempt statuses, training effectiveness, average scores, and more detailed insights on correct and incorrect answers by quiz.

 

Visualizations and insights:

Visualizations

KPIs Overall. Displays total quizzes, quiz attempts, attempted quizzes, passed quiz attempts, and answered questions. Offers a high-level metric view that helps in quickly gauging the reach and engagement of quizzes.

Quiz Attempts Status. Represented by a pie chart showing the percentage of passed versus failed attempts. Useful for identifying the overall success rate across all quizzes.

Training Effectiveness | Quiz Passing Value. Separates quizzes into two groups based on passing thresholds: 80% and above, and 79% and below. Allows quick identification of quizzes with room for improvement.

Average Quiz Score | By Quiz. A bar chart displaying the average scores for each quiz. Facilitates a direct comparison of performance across different quizzes.

Incorrect & Correct Answers | By Quiz. A stacked bar chart indicating the percentage of correct and incorrect answers for each quiz. Highlights areas where participants might be struggling, indicating potential focus points for further training.

Average Quiz Attempts | By Quiz. A line graph showing the number of attempts per quiz over a selected period. Helps to understand which quizzes require multiple attempts, possibly indicating difficulty or learner interest.

Interpreting Data. Review the KPIs section for a quick assessment of overall engagement and effectiveness. Analyze the quiz status and average score charts to identify trends and outliers in quiz performance.

 

Performance Over Time page

 

 

Overview

The Performance Over Time page tracks and visualizes the performance of quizzes across a selected timeframe (within 365 days). This dynamic view helps users identify trends, patterns, and areas of improvement in quiz outcomes over selected periods.

 

How it works

This page aggregates quiz performance data and displays it on a timeline, offering insights into how quiz scores fluctuate over months.

 

NOTE   

All Quizzes will be displayed automatically. Use the filters to display desired data.

 

Visualizations and insights

Visualizations

Quiz Performance Timeline. Displays a multi-line graph with each line representing the performance of a selected quiz(zes) over the selected period. The y-axis shows the performance percentage, while the x-axis represents the time. Each point on the lines can be hovered over to display specific data about quiz scores on particular dates.

Key Features. Users can click and drag to zoom in on specific time frames. Color-coded lines: Each quiz has a unique color code for easy identification across the timeline.

 

Filters and slicers

By Course Catalog. Allows users to filter the data by specific course catalogs. Selecting a catalog updates the timeline to only show quizzes associated with that catalog.

By Course(s). Provides the ability to drill down into specific courses within a catalog, further refining the data displayed on the timeline.

By Date Range. Users can select predefined or custom date ranges such as monthly intervals (Jan, Feb, Mar, etc.), facilitating focused analysis over these periods.

Select Quiz(zes). Offers a dropdown to select one or multiple quizzes for detailed tracking and comparison over the chosen time frame.

 

Instructions for use

Applying Filters. Choose appropriate filters from the top panel to refine the data displayed. Multiple filters can be applied simultaneously to narrow down the results to very specific criteria.

Navigating the Timeline. Click months along timeline to include in the visualization. Hover over any line to view detailed performance statistics for each quiz at specific points.

Comparing Data. To compare performances of different quizzes, ensure multiple quizzes are selected from the "Select Quiz(zes)" dropdown. This will display each selected quiz's performance on the graph to analyze relative performance trends.

 

User page

 

 

Overview:

The User View page provides detailed insights into individual user performance on quizzes. This personalized view allows managers and educators to track and analyze the progress and results of specific users across various quizzes and courses.

 

How it works

This page features a comprehensive breakdown of quiz participation and performance metrics for a selected user. It includes interactive filters to tailor the view to specific courses or quizzes, offering detailed granularity in assessing user-specific data.

 

NOTE   

A user must be selected for data to display.

 

Visualizations and insights

KPIs Overall. Displays total attempted quizzes, number of quiz attempts, total answers provided, percentage of correct and incorrect answers, passed and failed attempts. These metrics give an immediate summary of the user’s engagement and success rates.

Quiz Details By User. A table listing all quizzes taken by the selected user, along with details such as course, quiz title, passing %, average score, score points, max score, status, duration, and the number of passed attempts. Enables detailed monitoring of user performance and progress in specific areas.

Average Quiz Score | By Quiz. A bar chart reflecting the average score per quiz for the selected user. Helps identify which quizzes were best performed and which posed challenges.

% Incorrect & Correct Answers | By Quiz. A stacked bar chart showing the percentage of correct and incorrect answers for each quiz taken by the user. Useful for pinpointing areas of strength and weakness in the user’s knowledge or quiz strategy.

Average Quiz Attempts | By Quiz. A dot plot graph showing the number of attempts per quiz. Indicates quizzes that might need more focus due to multiple attempts signaling difficulty or persistent errors.

 

Filters and slicers

Select User. Dropdown to select the user whose data you want to view. The data on the page updates to reflect the performance of the chosen user. A user must be selected to display data.

Filter By Course(s). Allows filtering the data shown based on the courses the selected user has participated in. This is useful for assessing performance within specific training(s).

Filter By Quiz(zes). Enables selection of one or more quizzes to specifically look at performance details for those assessments.

 

Instructions for use

Selecting a User. Use the "Select User" dropdown at the top left of the page to choose which user’s data to display. The page will refresh with all visualizations and details specific to the selected user.

Applying Filters. Adjust the "Filter By Course(s)" and "Filter By Quiz(zes)" to refine the displayed data. This allows for a focused view on specific areas of interest or concern.

Navigating Visual Data. Hover over any part of the visual graphs for more detailed information. For example, hovering over a bar in the "Average Quiz Score" chart will display the exact score percentage.

Analyzing Data. Use the detailed table under "Quiz Details By User" to track performance trends, identify quizzes with failed attempts, and assess the effectiveness of training or study strategies.

 

Department View page

 

 

Overview

The Department View page provides a comprehensive overview of quiz performance metrics at the departmental level. This view allows for the analysis of quiz outcomes across various courses and quizzes within a selected department, enabling managers and trainers to gauge the effectiveness of training programs and identify areas for improvement.

 

How it works

This page aggregates data related to quiz attempts, performance scores, and pass/fail rates within a department, and displays them through a series of interactive charts and tables.

 

NOTE   

A department must be selected for data to display.

 

Visualizations and insights

KPIs Overall. Displays key performance indicators including the total number of attempted quizzes, correct and incorrect answer percentages, and counts of passed and failed quiz attempts. These metrics provide an initial snapshot of the department’s performance and engagement levels.

Average Quiz Score | By Quiz. A bar chart showing the average score achieved by the department in each quiz. Helps in quickly assessing which quizzes were well-handled and which were challenging for the department.

% Incorrect & Correct By Quiz. A stacked bar chart displaying the percentage of correct and incorrect answers for each quiz. Useful for identifying specific areas where the department is struggling or excelling.

Average Quiz Attempts | By Quiz. A line graph depicting the average number of attempts per quiz. Indicates quizzes that may require more focus due to their higher average attempts, possibly pointing to more challenging content.

Quiz Details | By User. A detailed table listing each user within the department along with their course, quiz title, passing percentage, scores, status, and other relevant details. Enables granular analysis of individual contributions to departmental performance.

 

Filters and slicers

Select Department. A dropdown to select the department for which data should be displayed. Selecting a department updates all the charts and tables to reflect only the data relevant to that department. A department must be selected.

Filter By Course(s). Allows users to filter the displayed data based on specific courses. This helps in focusing on the performance within particular training.

Filter By Quiz(zes). Users can refine the data by selecting specific quizzes to analyze departmental performance on those assessments.

 

Instructions for use

Selecting a Department. Use the "Select Department" dropdown to choose the department you want to analyze. The page will update to show data relevant to the selected department.

Applying Filters. Utilize the "Filter By Course(s)" and "Filter By Quiz(zes)" options to narrow down the displayed data to target specific courses or quizzes, enhancing the focus of your analysis.

 

Interpreting charts and tables

Review the KPIs to get a quick understanding of overall department performance. Explore the charts to discern patterns or areas needing attention. Analyze the "Quiz Details | By User" table to evaluate individual performances and their impact on the overall department metrics.

 

Course View page

 

 

Overview

The Course View page is designed to provide a detailed analysis of quiz performance within a specific course. It highlights key performance indicators, individual quiz outcomes, and detailed user performance, enabling instructors and training coordinators to pinpoint areas of strength and weakness within the course content.

 

How it works

This page uses data from a selected course to display various metrics and trends related to quiz attempts and outcomes. It offers a comprehensive view of how participants are performing, which quizzes are most challenging, and which areas might need revised instructional strategies.

 

NOTE   

A course must be selected for data to display.

 

Visualizations and insights

KPIs Overall. Shows the total number of attempted quizzes, the number of quiz attempts, and the breakdown of passed and failed attempts along with the count of correct and incorrect answers. These metrics offer a snapshot of overall engagement and success within the course.

Average Quiz Score | By Quiz. A bar chart showing the average scores achieved in each quiz associated with the course. Allows educators to quickly assess which quizzes are well understood by the students and which are not.

% Incorrect & Correct By Quiz. A stacked bar chart illustrating the percentage of correct and incorrect answers for each quiz. This visualization helps identify specific quizzes where participants might be struggling, suggesting areas for potential content review or additional training.

Average Quiz Attempts | By Quiz. A line graph depicting the average number of attempts taken by participants to pass each quiz. Useful for understanding quiz difficulty and learner persistence.

Quiz Details | By User. A detailed table listing each user's performance in the course's quizzes, including passing percentage, scores, status, and time spent. Provides a granular look at individual achievement and areas where specific participants may require additional support.

 

Filters and slicers

Select Course. A dropdown menu that allows users to select the course they want to analyze. Changing the selection updates all the data visualizations and tables to reflect the performance related to the selected course. A course must be selected.

Filter By Quiz(zes): Allows users to narrow down the view to include data from one or more specific quizzes. This is useful for focusing the analysis on particular assessments within the course.

 

Instructions for use

Selecting a Course: Use the "Select Course" dropdown to choose the course for which data should be displayed. The visualizations and tables will update accordingly to show relevant information.

This page is designed to facilitate a detailed evaluation of the effectiveness of quizzes and user engagement, helping educators and administrators to make informed decisions about instructional strategies and content.

 

How it works

This page consolidates data from various quizzes and displays key performance indicators (KPIs), allowing for a comprehensive look at success rates, attempts, and answer accuracy. It also provides detailed statistics on a per-user basis, offering insights into individual performances.

 

Visualizations and insights

KPIs Overall. displays total attempted quizzes, the percentage of correct and incorrect answers, number of quiz attempts, passed attempts, and failed attempts. These KPIs provide a high-level summary of overall engagement and understanding across all quizzes.

Quiz Statistics By User. A detailed table lists each user's activity across different courses and quizzes, showing passing percentages, scores, number of attempts, and status of each quiz attempt. Filter By Quiz(zes): Users can refine the view to display data for one or more specific quizzes, ideal for detailed performance evaluation on particular quizzes.

Filter By User: This filter allows the selection of data related to a specific user, aiding in the detailed review of individual learner performances.

 

Instructions for use

Selecting Filters. Adjust the filters for course catalog, specific courses, quizzes, and users at the top of the page to customize the displayed data. This flexibility helps focus the analysis on the most relevant information for your needs.

Navigating the Data Table. Scroll through the "Quiz Statistics By User" table to view detailed performance data for each user across different quizzes and courses. Click on column headers to sort data based on criteria like score, passing percentage, or number of attempts.

Analyzing Performance. Use the overall KPIs to gain a quick understanding of how quizzes are performing such as which quizzes have high failure rates or which courses might be too challenging. Dive deeper into individual performance metrics in the table to identify trends or issues at the user level, such as consistently low scores or high numbers of attempts, which could indicate areas where additional support or revision of material might be necessary.
