Introduction
NOTE
Currently, learners can generate and edit learning paths, and take training from within learning paths, only if the LMS admin at your organization configures the availability of the new UI in SharePoint and Teams. If this is configured, learners can set the Beta preview toggle on My Training Dashboard to On and try out the new user experience. If this isn't configured, learners will continue to use the original UI on My Training Dashboard and won't be able to generate or edit learning paths until the new UI becomes the default.
When learners generate a learning path, they can continue to build it (for example, by adding and removing training) to ensure it remains relevant and appropriate throughout their learning journey. This is particularly important when learners generate a learning path with AI. When generating learning paths with AI in Learn365, we strongly recommend learners check learning paths to ensure they meet the learner's specific needs and expectations.
As well as editing basic learning path details, such as the title and description, learners might choose to add sections to their learning path so they can group training by theme. In each section, learners can add relevant training to support them in their learning journey. Learners can add training to their learning path without grouping it in sections. This approach might be appropriate if the learner's learning path has just one theme.
Once configured, learners can enroll in and take training directly from a learning path.
View a learning path
1. Go to My Training Dashboard > My Training. The My training page opens.
2. Scroll down to the My learning paths section.
Here, learners see learning paths they have generated.
3. Select the relevant learning path to open it.
Learners see information about the selected learning path and its training. Learning paths are displayed on a timeline, which represents their learning journey.
Above the learning path title, Orbie is displayed with an icon if it was generated with AI. The total expected duration of the training in the learning path, and the number of courses and training plans in the learning path, are also displayed. Placeholder (Proposal) tiles aren't included in this number.
Below the learning path title, learners can enroll in all the training in the learning path, add sections to the learning path, add training, and delete learning paths. A progress bar shows the learner's overall progress with a learning path via a progress bar.
Any categories defined for the training in a learning path are displayed on the right-hand side, as well as any skills that will be awarded to learners when they successfully complete the learning path.
Any sections and training already added to the learning path are displayed below the learning path title and description.
Next to each course and training plan tile, learners see a progress indicator. A green circle with a white checkmark indicates the training is complete. A circle with a green outline and a white background indicates the training isn't complete.
For completed training, the completion date is displayed on the training tile.
Learners can collapse and expand each section by selecting the down- and right-facing chevrons respectively next to each section.
Edit the learning path title and description
1. With the relevant learning path open, select Edit at the top of the page. The Edit learning path dialog opens.
2. Enter a Title (up to 128 characters) and Description (up to 1000 characters) for the learning path, then select Save.
The updated title and description are displayed on the learning path page.
If a learner enters a long description, only the first few lines are displayed. Select Show more and Show less to expand and collapse the description, respectively.
Add a section to a learning path
NOTE
If learners choose to add sections to learning paths to group training by theme, they should add sections before adding training to the learning path. If learners add training before they add sections, they won't be able to move training to the sections.
1. With the relevant learning path open, select Add > Add section at the top of the page. The Add section dialog opens.
2. Enter a Title for the new section (up to 128 characters), then select Add.
The new section is displayed.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to add more sections, if required.
The order in which learners add sections determines their display order in the learning path.
Edit a section
1. With the relevant learning path open, find the relevant section.
2. Select the ellipsis (...) next to the relevant section title and select Edit section. The Edit section dialog opens.
3. Enter a Title for the section (up to 128 characters), then select Save.
Delete a section
When learners delete a section from a learning path, all the training is deleted from the section. The learner's training enrollments and progress aren't affected.
This action can't be undone.
1. With the relevant learning path open, find the section.
2. Select the ellipsis (...) next to the relevant section title and select Delete section. The Confirmation dialog opens.
3. Select Delete to confirm the action, or Cancel.
Add training to a learning path
NOTE
If learners choose to add sections to learning paths to group training by theme, they should add sections before adding training to the learning path. If learners add training before they add sections, they won't be able to move training to the sections.
1. Learners open the learning path to which they want to add training.
2. Choose where they want to add training: in a section or directly in a learning path.
3. Add the relevant training.
- To add training to a section, select the ellipsis (...) next to the relevant section title and select Add training.
- To add training directly to a learning path, select Add > Add training below the learning path title.
- To replace a Proposal placeholder with training, select Add on the placeholder tile. Placeholder tiles are created when there isn't any available training while generating learning paths both with AI and based on target skills. For more information, see this section of the article.
In all instances, the Add training panel opens.
Here, learners see all the published training available across all catalogs they can access. This includes training imported from content providers such as LinkedIn Learning, Go1, OpenSesame, and Udemy Business.
For each course and training plan, the following information is displayed on its tile:
- Training thumbnail image
- Training type
- Training title
- Long description
- Name of the training admin (if specified)
- Skills that will be awarded to learners when they successfully complete this training
- The total expected duration of the training
- Enrolled (if the learner is already enrolled in the training)
- In progress (if the learner has already started the training)
- Completed on <date> (if the learner has already completed the training)
- Content provider icon (if the training is imported from a content provider).
The Add training panel displays 20 training items per page. Learners can browse through the pages of available training using the navigation tools at the bottom of the panel to find the relevant training and use the Search box and filters at the top of the screen to search.
4. Enter a search parameter in the Search box, then press Enter. The search works on training title, competency title and level, long description, categories, and tags. Any training that matches the search parameter is displayed.
5. Learners can further filter the training:
- By default, training across all catalogs to which the learner has access is displayed. To restrict the view to show training in specific catalogs, select them from the Catalog drop-down menu.
- By default, categories available in all selected catalogs are available. To restrict the view to show training with specific categories, select them from the Category drop-down menu.
- By default, all types of training are available. To restrict the view to show any combination of e-learning, instructor-led training, and training plans, select them from the Training Type drop-down menu.
If a filter is applied, a shade is added to the icon on the relevant filter button.
6. To clear a filter, select the relevant drop-down menu and deselect it or select Clear all.
7. Learners can change the display order by select from the Sort by drop-down menu. The options are Newest training first, Oldest training first, Alphabetically (A-Z), and Alphabetically (Z-A).
8. Select the checkboxes of the courses and training plans to add to the learning path.
NOTE
Any training that learners have already added to a learning path is grayed out and can't be selected again.
9. Select Add n trainings to add the training to the learning path, or Cancel.
The selected training is added to the area of the learning path from where the learner initiated the training selection. If training is added to a section, it is displayed at the bottom of the section. If training is added directly to a learning path, it is displayed at the bottom of the learning path.
For each course and training plan added to a learning path, the following information is displayed:
- Training thumbnail image
- Training type
- Training title
- Long description
- Name of the training admin (if specified)
- Skills that will be awarded to learners when they successfully complete this training
- The total expected duration of the training
- Enrolled (if the learner is already enrolled in the training)
- In progress (if the learner has already started the training)
- Completed on <date> (if the learner has already completed the training)
- Favorite icon that enables learners to mark the training as favorite by selecting the heart icon, or remove from favorite by deselecting it
- Option to Play training for training in which the learner is enrolled
- Content provider icon (if the training is imported from a content provider).
As learners add training, the total expected duration of the training in the learning path, and the number of courses and training plans in the learning path, are displayed above the learning path title at the top of the page. Placeholder (Proposal) tiles aren't included in this number.
If learners add training to a section, the number of courses and training plans in the section is also displayed in a circle next to the section name. This number is also displayed at the bottom of the section, together with the total expected duration of all the training in the section. Placeholder (Proposal) tiles aren't included in this number.
Note about replacing placeholder (Proposal) tiles with courses and training plans
When generating learning paths both with AI and based on target skills, placeholder (or Proposal) tiles, which indicate a potential content gap, are added to a learning path if there isn't any available training associated with the defined goal, or a skill and skill level, respectively.
Placeholder tiles offer training suggestions that learners might choose to investigate and add to their learning path. Placeholder tiles contain fictitious training titles, so they don't refer to training to which learners have access. However, learners can use training suggestions as a source of inspiration when searching for relevant training to add to their learning path.
When learners add training to the learning path by selecting Add on the placeholder tile and choosing the relevant training, the selected training replaces the corresponding placeholder.
Alternatively, learners can remove placeholder tiles. For more information, see this section of the article.
