How can I avoid manual input when bulk importing SCORM/AICC content and courses?

Via the Import Tool, SCORM and AICC content can be bulk imported to the Content package storage, from where it can be used in current and future courses. However, this requires the import files to be prepared in a certain format which makes manual input of information necessary. If a customer needs to import many courses, this is not optimal.

In this guide, we will describe the required format of the import files and how these can be prepared without manual input.

Required format of import file

To process the import, the following data must be made ready:

• SCORM/AICC files in the .zip file format. The SCORM/AICC files are the files, containing all the information to be imported, packaged into a ZIP archive.
• SCORM/AICC import file. It's an .xlsx file that is completed by the customer with required SCORM completion information such as: Title, description, content type, ZIP path, number of attempts, and other general advanced SCORM settings. The Scorms.xlsx file template attachment can be found on the page left bottom.
• The Course import file. It's an .xlsx file that is completed by the customer with required course information such as: Course title, short description, enrollment flow, course publishing, shown in catalog, course teachers, course type, category, course URL, certificate template, and the association of SCORM content to be included in created course. The Courses.xlsx file template attachment can be found on the page left bottom.

Possible solution to avoid manual input

To avoid manual input into xlsx files when preparing import files, you can investigate the download capabilities of the legacy LMS.

If there is an ability to export a list of courses or download full course packages along with description files, this can be used as a source for the import files.

If applicable (as in the case for LinkedIn Learning courses), you need to map the fields from the LiL description file with the SCORM.xlsx and Courses.xlsx files. Also, you need to install an SSO LiL application for this to work.

Once the two description files are populated and the SCORM/AICC content is downloaded, you can proceed with running the Import Tool.
