Troubleshoot issues with quizzes

Introduction

Users may occasionally experience issues when taking a quiz that forms part of a quiz. In this article, we show the most common issues, why they occur, and how to resolve them.

Completed quiz doesn't have 100% progress on the course home page

Issue: On the course home page, a quiz with a percentage progress of less than 100% is shown as Completed.

Solution: The quiz completion percentage displayed on the course home page is based on the Quiz passing score settings:

  • When the Quiz passing score is set at 100%, users have to provide correct answers to all quiz questions to complete it. In this case, a completed quiz will have 100% percent displayed on the course home page.
  • When the Quiz passing score is set at any other percentage, users have to provide correct answers to the corresponding number of quiz questions to complete the quiz. In this case, the percentage displayed on the course home page is calculated based on the number of correct answers out of the total number of quiz questions.

In any case, if the quiz status is shown as Completed and the progress bar is green, this indicates that the quiz is successfully completed.

Quiz disappears from the course home page and the Learn365 player

Issue: Users may experience a case where a quiz disappears from the Content section on the course home page and from the Learn365 player.

Solution: When a quiz is added to a course as an independent, standalone learning item, it's displayed separately in the Content section on the course home page and in the Learn365 player.

When a quiz is included in a course both as an independent, standalone item and as part of a learning module, Learn365 will hide the standalone item to avoid redundancy. This way, learners will only need to take the quiz once as part of the learning module, without having to complete it separately as a standalone item.

To display the quiz as an independent, standalone item, course or catalog admins can make the quiz visible:

1. In the Content section of the course management panel, select the relevant hidden quiz.

2. On the Actions panel, select Make quiz visible. On the course home page, the quiz will be displayed both as an independent, standalone learning item and as part of the learning module to which it's been added.

Quiz unexpectedly displays on the course home page as an individual, standalone item

Issue: A quiz is unexpectedly displayed as an individual, standalone item, on the course home page and in the Learn365 player even though course or catalog admins didn't do this.

Solution: Quizzes added to a learning module via the learning module editor become part of the course, and this is indicated in the Content section of the course management panel, as separate, hidden items that aren't visible to learners on the course home page.

If the quiz is removed from the learning module, the individual, standalone item becomes visible on the course home page and is available for learners to see and take. Find more information about how to completely remove the quiz from the course in this article.

Font size for questions and answers is different to the default font size

Issue: The font size used in the question and answer fields may differ from the default font size. This happens when the text is copied from another course, then pasted into this course. The text format from the other course is retained.
Solution: To resolve the formatting issue, in the Question text field, select Source code; in the answer field, select the View HTML option.

For the question field, the Source code option is displayed on the rich text editor toolbar and opens a window where the formatting of the text is displayed. Delete all the formatting and select Save to save your changes. The changes will be applied immediately, and the text will be displayed in the default font size.

For the answer field, the View HTML option is displayed on the toolbar that's displayed when the cursor is placed in the field. This option provides the same functionality as the question field.
