Introduction
Translations enable you to make your Content365 Authoring courses available in different languages.
A course translation is a child of the default (parent) course, and remains strongly linked to the default one. While you can customize certain elements for different languages, the core structure and progression of the course remain tied to the default one. This child-parent relationship ensures consistency and simplifies course management across languages.
In this article, we'll show how you translate your Content365 Authoring courses.
What can you edit in a translated course?
You can customize the following in a translated course:
- Text. All textual elements within your course, including titles, descriptions, lesson content, quiz questions, and feedback, can be edited and translated. This enables you to provide a fully localized experience for learners.
- Images. You can switch images to better suit your target audience. For example, you might replace an image depicting a specific local landmark with one more relevant to the region for which you're providing a translated course.
IMPORTANT
While you can edit text and images, the core structure of the course is inherited from the default course and can't be changed from within a a translated course.
What language of the course will learners see?
If a learner's default browser language is set to Spanish and a Spanish translation of your course is available, learners see the Spanish language course. This ensures a personalized learning experience.
In cases where a learner's browser is set to a language that isn't supported by a course translation, the course displays in the default language you've chosen. This approach guarantees all learners can access your course even if a specific translation isn't available for their browser language.
What happens if I edit the default course?
If you make structural changes to the default course, for example you add or delete a screen, you can sync these changes with the associated translations. The sync updates the translations with your changes, ensuring consistency across your different language offerings. This sync process is manual for each translation. This approach helps maintain the integrity of your course structure across all languages.
Translate course content
Required role: catalog admin.
1. Go to the Learn365 Admin Center > Training Management. The Training Management page opens.
2. Select Content365 Authoring. The Import Content365 Authoring courses panel opens.
3. You can use the Search field to find a specific course. The search runs only on the course title.
4. Select Edit course (the pen icon) next to the course you want to edit. The course opens on the Create Course panel.
5. Select the cog icon () near the top of the screen. The Course settings dialog opens.
6. Select Languages in the left-hand panel. The Languages section opens.
The Default language is displayed. In the following image, English is the default language.
7. Select Add translations.
8. Select the language into which you want to translate your course from the Select language drop-down list. You can enter all or part of a language then select it from the filtered view. For information about the available languages, see Content365 Authoring languages.
9. Select Translate language. Content365 Authoring processes the request and generates the translated content.
When the content is translated, the language is displayed in the list of Translations.
10. Repeat steps 6 to 8 for any other language translations you want configure for the course. You can generate as many course translations as you want.
When the content is translated into the selected languages, you can view and edit their translations.
11. Select Edit next to the language. The course opens in the selected language on the Create Course panel. The language is displayed near the top of the screen.
Review the text and images, and edit where necessary.
12. Select Done to save progress and exit the editor.
Set the default language of a course
You can change which language of a course is considered the default. This is particularly useful if a specific translated version gains significant traction or becomes the main course offering for a particular market.
1. From the list of Translations on the Languages dialog, select the ellipsis (the three dots icon) next to the relevant language and select Set as default language.
2. Confirm the action by selecting Change default.
The selected translation becomes the default course. The course that was originally the default one is moved to the list of Translations when you return to the Languages dialog.
Delete course translations
1. From the list of Translations on the Languages dialog, select the ellipsis (the three dots icon) next to the relevant language and select Delete translation.
2. Confirm the action by selecting Delete translation.
