Use real-time progress and engagement analytics in custom agents via Microsoft Copilot Studio to see your own Learn365 data

Introduction

All Learn365 users and learners with a Microsoft Copilot Studio license can view and analyze their learning progress and engagement via an agent. This enables them to identify areas where they might want to focus future learning and areas for continuous improvement.

Learn365 data for the signed in user is available through the MCP server in the agent.

In this article, we show how to add the Learn365 MCP server to the agent so it starts using your Learn365 data.

Configure the agent in Microsoft Copilot Studio

NOTE

Each user who wants to add the Learn365 MCP server to a custom agent must have a Microsoft Copilot Studio license.

1. Open your agent in Microsoft Copilot Studio.

2. Select Add tool in the top right-hand corner of the Tools section. The Add tool dialog opens. Here, you define the tool that you'll use when you talk to the agent.

Here, you can choose how to connect your agent to your data.

There are two options named Model Context Protocol: the large button directly below the Create new section heading, and the smaller button that sits inside the middle bar of the screen, next to other options such as All, Connector, Prompt, and so on.

While both methods enable you to connect your agent to your data, we strongly recommend you select the button that sits inside the middle bar of the screen to connect to your data in the most efficient way.

3. Select Model Content Protocol in the middle bar of the screen.

4. Scroll through the list of MCP servers and select Learn365 MCP Server.

Here, you'll see the description of the Learn365 MCP server and you can select Connector documentation if you want more information.

5. To connect to the Learn365 MCP server, select Create new connection from the Connection drop-down near the bottom of the dialog,

6. On the Connect to Learn365 MCP Server dialog that opens, select Create.

7. Select the account you want to use to connect to the Learn365 MCP server. This is the account the agent will use to gather information from Learn365.

Once you're signed in, the Connection field at the bottom of the Add tool dialog shows the signed in user's email account. A green checkmark next to the email account indicates the connection is established.

8. To connect the Learn365 MCP server to your agent, select Add and configure at the bottom of the Add tool dialog.

After a few seconds, the agent page opens on the Tools tab. You'll see the Your tool was added to the agent message on a green bar near the top of the screen.

While more configuration options are available in the Tools section, you can keep the default settings.

9. The Enabled toggle is set to On by default. This means the tool is active and available to the agent.

The added tool is displayed on the Tools tab, from where you can disable and enable it.

You can optionally configure the agent more. For example, you might want to define some instructions that will give the agent context when you talk to it. When the agent receives your request, it uses these instructions to clarify what action it needs to perform.

Next steps

Once the tool is connected to the Learn365 MCP server, you can start testing the agent. Once you've published it, users can gather valuable insights about their own Learn365 data.
