Grading scales in Learn365: create and manage

Introduction

Required role: LMS admin.

LMS admins can define grading scales for an organization, which enables grading of assessments across all catalogs on the tenant.

When grading scales are defined:

This article describes how LMS admins create and manage grading scales.

View grading scales

Go to the Learn365 Admin Center > All catalogs > Learning configuration > Grading scales. The Grading scales page opens. This page shows the following information:

  • Name. The name of the grading scale.
  • Levels. The number of levels that the grading scale contains.
  • Assessments. The number of assessments in which the grade scale is currently in use.
  • The column with the eye icon (Assessments using this grading scale).

By default, one grading scale with two levels is already available for use but you can add more.

Create a grading scale

1. Go to the Learn365 Admin Center > All catalogs > Learning configuration > Grading scales. The Grading scales page opens.

2. Select + Add grading scale. The Add grading scale panel opens, displaying two default levels.

3. Enter the following information. All fields are required.

  • Name. Enter a name for the grading scale. If you're creating more than one grading scale, the scale names must be unique.
  • Level name. Enter names for each level within the grading scale. Levels names within grading scales must be unique.
  • Min %. The minimum percentage for a given level.
  • Max %. The maximum percentage for a given level.

You must have at least two levels. The percentage scale for levels must be continuous, without gaps or overlaps, and must cover the full range from 0 to 100.

4. Select + Add level to add any more levels.

5. When you're done, select Save. The grading scale is now ready to use in course assessments across all catalogs.

If Save is grayed out, check that all parameters are entered properly.

View assessments that are using a grading scale

1. Go to the Learn365 Admin Center > All catalogs > Learning configuration > Grading scales. The Grading scales page opens. If a grading scale is currently being used in an assessment, the eye icon on the grading scale row will be blue. Otherwise, it will be gray.

2. Select the blue eye icon.

select blue eye icon to view assessments using the grading scale

3. The Assessments using this grading scale panel opens, and displays the Name of the assessment, along with the Catalog and Course where the grading scale is used.

Alternatively, you can select the row of the grading scale, without selecting the blue eye icon, then on the Grading scale management panel that opens, select Assessments using this grading scale.

Edit a grading scale

NOTE

Once you create a grading scale, you can edit all of its parameters, up until the grading scale is used to grade the first assessment. Once a scale is used to grade an assessment, it's no longer possible to add or delete levels, or change the Min % or Max % values.

1. Go to the Learn365 Admin Center > All catalogs > Learning configuration > Grading scales. The Grading scales page opens.

2. Select a grading scale and on the Grading scale management panel, select Edit grading scale.

3. Edit the relevant parameters and select Save. The changes will be reflected in assessments that use this grading scale.

Delete a grading scale

NOTE

You can delete grading scales that aren't currently in use. You can't delete a grading scale if it's been used to grade at least one assessment.

1. Go to the Learn365 Admin Center > All catalogs > Learning configuration > Grading scales. The Grading scales page opens.

2. Select a grading scale and on the Grading scale management panel, select Delete grading scale.

3. On the Confirmation dialog, select Delete. This action can't be undone.
