Create and manage job families in the Career Framework in Perform & Engage 365

Introduction

Required role: Super admin.

Job families help organize related job roles within your organization's Career Framework. For example, you might create job families for Engineering, Marketing, Sales, or Customer Success. Each job family can contain multiple job roles and can optionally include a cover image and description.

This article explains how to add, edit, duplicate, and delete job families.

NOTE

For organizations that started a new subscription on or after Monday, June 6, 2026, this feature is available only with the Scale and Transform plans. For more information, see this article.

This feature is available for all organizations on the legacy Perform365 plan.

Before you start

To manage job families, you must:

  • Have the Super admin role in Perform & Engage 365.
  • Have access to the Career Framework feature.

Create a job family

1. Select Organisation > navigation menu (the image 103 (68).png icon) in the top right-hand corner > Career Framework. The Career framework page opens.

2. In the Job families section, select Add job family. The Add job family dialog opens.

3. Optionally select Add cover image and choose the image you want to display on the job family card and details page. The recommended size is 2700 × 320 px.

4. Enter the Job family title, up to 50 characters.

5. Optionally enter a Description, up to 300 characters.

4. Select Add.

The job family is created and opens automatically on a page of the same name. From here, you can create job roles.

Edit a job family

You can edit the details of an existing job family.

1. Select Organisation > navigation menu (the image 103 (68).png icon) in the top right-hand corner > Career Framework. The Career framework page opens.

2. Find the job family you want to edit.

3. Select the action menu (...) on the job family card > Edit details. The Edit details dialog opens.

4. Edit the required information.

You can change or delete the cover image (image 103 (69).png and image 103 (70).png respectively), and edit the Job family title and Description. Removing the cover image clears the existing image from the job family.

5. Select Save.

Duplicate a job family

Duplicating a job family creates a new job family using the same details as an existing one.

1. Select Organisation > navigation menu (the image 103 (68).png icon) in the top right-hand corner > Career Framework. The Career framework page opens.

2. Find the job family you want to duplicate.

3. Select the action menu (...) on the job family card > Duplicate. The Duplicate job family dialog opens.

By default, (Copy) is added to the end of the Job family title. The existing cover image is copied to the new job family.

4. Edit the required information.

You can change or delete the cover image (image 103 (69).png and image 103 (70).png respectively), and edit the Job family title and Description. Removing the cover image clears the existing image from the duplicated job family.

5. Select Duplicate

The duplicated job family is created and opens automatically on a page of the same name.

NOTE

Duplicating a job family copies the job family details only. Roles from the original job family aren't copied.

Delete a job family

If a job family is no longer needed, you can delete it. This action can't be undone.

1. Select Organisation > navigation menu (the image 103 (68).png icon) in the top right-hand corner > Career Framework. The Career framework page opens.

2. Find the job family you want to delete.

3. Select the action menu (...) on the job family card > Delete.

The dialog that opens depends whether the job family has assigned employees.

If the job family doesn't have assigned employees:

The Delete <job family name>? dialog opens.

1. Review the confirmation message. You're warned that all roles within this job family will be permanently deleted.

2. Select Delete, or Cancel.

The job family and all roles within it are permanently deleted.

If the job family has assigned employees:

The Delete <job family name> dialog opens.

This dialog shows:

  • The number of affected employees.
  • An employees list, which you use to identify affected users.
  • Filters that can be used to locate employees. The filters are Unassigned, Team, Department, and Job Role.

1. Review the affected employees.

2. To reassign employees to a different job family, select their checkbox, then Assign role. The Assign role dialog opens.

  • Select the relevant Job family, Role, and Current job level from the drop-down lists.
  • Select Assign, or Cancel.

Updates are visible across your organization when the career framework is published.

3. To unassign employees from this job family, select their checkbox, then Unassign. The Unassign employees dialog opens.

  • You're warned that if you unassign the employees, they will lose access to this role's career progression.
  • Select Unassign, or Cancel.

4. When all employees are either assigned a different role or unassigned, select Delete job family, or Cancel.

When you delete the job family:

  • All roles within the job family are deleted.
  • Employees assigned to those roles are unassigned.
  • Historical assignment records are retained for reference and reporting purposes.

Navigate to a job family

To open a job family:

1. Select Organisation > navigation menu (the image 103 (68).png icon) in the top right-hand corner > Career Framework. The Career framework page opens.

2. Select a job family card to open it on a page of the same name. From here, you can:

  • View roles in the job family.
  • Create new roles.
  • Search for roles.
  • Assign employees to roles and levels.
  • Edit or delete the job family.

Job family cards

Each job family is displayed as a card on the Career framework page. Job family cards include:

  • The cover image.
  • The job family name.
  • The number of roles in the family.
  • The number of employees assigned to roles within the family.
  • The current framework status.

Changes made to a job family are saved in the current draft version of the Career Framework. To make those changes available to the organization, publish the framework.
