Introduction to the Career Framework in Perform & Engage 365

Introduction

Required role: Super admin.

The Career Framework in Perform & Engage 365 helps organizations define and manage career structures across the business. Super admins can create job families, job roles, career paths, and job levels, then assign employees to roles and levels that reflect their current position and future growth opportunities.

The feature provides a centralized framework for managing career progression and uses a version-based publishing model that allows changes to be reviewed before they are made available to the organization.

NOTE

For organizations that started a new subscription on or after Monday, June 6, 2026, this feature is available only with the Scale and Transform plans. For more information, see this article.

This feature is available for all organizations on the legacy Perform365 plan.

Prerequisites

To use Career Framework:

  • You must have the Super admin role in Perform & Engage 365.
  • The feature is available only in the web interface.
  • The feature is designed for desktop use. A notification is displayed on narrow screens recommending desktop access.

What is a Career Framework?

A Career Framework is the organizational structure that defines how roles and career progression are organized within your company. It consists of job families, job roles, career paths, and job levels that together create a clear career progression model.

The framework is managed as a single entity for each organization. Organizations can have one Career Framework and this is created automatically the first time a Super admin accesses the feature.

Key concepts

Job family. A group of related roles, such as Engineering, Marketing, or Customer Success, that share similar progression paths.

Job role. A specific role within a job family. Each role belongs to one job family and follows one career path.

Career path. A progression track that defines the levels available for a role, such as an individual contributor or management track.

Job level. A stage within a career path that represents a level of progression and proficiency.

Career plan. An employee's target role and level they are working toward.

Role assignment. The connection between an employee and a specific role and level.

How Career Framework works

Career Framework uses a draft-and-publish model. Super admins make changes in a draft version of the framework, then publish those changes when they are ready to be made available to the organization.

This approach helps organizations:

  • Build and update their career structure safely.
  • Review changes before publishing them.
  • Preserve assignment and career plan information between versions.

Framework status

The framework status is displayed at the top of the Career framework page and can be in one of three states:

Draft. The framework has been created but hasn't been published yet.

Unpublished changes. Changes have been made since the last published version.

Published. The latest version has been published and no additional changes have been made.

When a new version is published, the framework records version information and creates a new draft for future updates. Active role assignments and career plans are carried forward where possible so employees remain aligned to the latest version of the framework.

How to access the Career Framework

The Career Framework is available via Organization > navigation menu (the image 103 (68).png icon) > Career Framework. The Career framework page opens.

The Career framework page enables Super admins to:

  • Manage job families.
  • Manage employee role assignments.
  • Manage career paths.

It also gives access to import and export tools

Setting up your first Career Framework

When a Super admin opens Career Framework for the first time, the framework is created automatically with a default structure. This includes a global career path containing five default levels.

A typical setup process involves:

  • Creating or configuring career paths.
  • Adding job families.
  • Creating job roles within each job family.
  • Assigning employees to appropriate roles and levels.
  • Publishing the framework.

Who can access Career Framework?

The Career Framework is intended for Super admins only. They can create and manage framework structures, assign employees, publish new versions, and import or export framework data.

Regular employees can't access the Career Framework administration pages.
