Introduction
AI-driven assistance is available to admins in the Learn365 Admin Center to create content in Learn365.
This article describes how admins can use AI-powered assistance to create course-level surveys and survey questions.
Admins can continue to follow their regular (non-AI) survey creation process even if the AI-driven assistance feature is enabled.

NOTE
- All organizations can access important AI-powered features. For information about the AI-powered features available in your plan, see this article.
- We use Azure OpenAI service filtering, which helps to detect and prevent the generation of harmful, offensive, or potentially dangerous content. If such content is detected, the service will refuse to generate it. The administrator will be notified in such instances.
- Due to the nature of the technology involved, AI-generated content may be incorrect. We are continually developing AI-related features to enhance the quality of generated content.
Enable AI assistance to create course-level surveys
Required role: LMS admin or Microsoft 365 global admin.
Before admins can create course-level surveys with AI assistance, an LMS admin or Microsoft 365 global admin must enable AI-enhanced features.

Create course-level surveys with AI
Required role: catalog admin or course admin.
In Learn365, there are several ways to create course-level surveys using AI:
- From within an existing course via the Learn365 Admin Center > select a catalog > Training Management > select the relevant course > select Manage Course Content > Create with AI > Create survey with AI. This will add the survey to the course.
- From within a new course via the Learn365 Admin Center > select a catalog > Training Management > Create training > select the Content tab > Create with AI > Create survey with AI. This will add the survey to the course.
In both cases, you'll be directed to the Generate survey panel, where you can create a survey with AI.
Generate surveys with AI
Required role: catalog admin or course admin.
This section describes how to generate course-level surveys with AI.
NOTE
- The AI feature can generate surveys and questions from text (including paragraphs, lists, and content displayed in tables).
- When generating surveys and questions, the text added to the Source text field (either by manual entry or inserted from file) isn't stored by Learn365. The text is used solely for the purpose of generating surveys and questions and isn't retained thereafter.
- The Source text field can contain more text than AI can use to generate a survey. The character limit includes technical tags, URLs, links, special characters, and other content. The counter below the Source text field shows how many characters out of the character limit remain. If the counter shows a negative number, you'll have to remove some content before you can generate the survey.
1. Add content to the Source text field using one or more of the following methods:
- Manually enter the relevant content in the field. Alternatively, you can input just a topic, which AI will use to generate related questions. For more information about how to write effective prompts for generative AI, see this article.
- Copy the content from a resource and paste it in the field.
- Use the Insert text from file option to add content from PDF (limited to 300 pages of the original file), Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. The content from the file will be uploaded to the Source text field, from where it can be edited. You can't insert text from files that use the legacy .doc, .xls, or .ppt formats.
2. Select the language for the generated survey from the Output language drop-down list.
Keep the default setting (Input language) to generate the survey in the same language as the source content or choose any language supported by Microsoft from the drop-down.

3. Define the number of questions and answers you want to generate for the selected question types. You can define a maximum of 50 questions in total per survey, across all selected question types.
- In the Number of questions field:
- Specify how many questions you want to generate for each question type. AI can generate up to 25 questions for any single question type, provided the total number of questions across all types doesn't exceed 50.
- The field is required. To exclude a question type from generation, leave its default value set to 0.
- In the Number of answers field:
- Specify a number between two and five for each question. The default setting is three answers. This field isn't available for True or false question types.
- The field is required and must contain a value from two to five, even when the corresponding Number of questions value is 0. When Number of questions is 0, Learn365 doesn’t generate questions or answers for that question type.
AI can generate questions of the same types supported by course-level surveys.
4. Select Generate to generate the survey. To cancel the action, select Close.
The tooltip on the diamond-shaped icon on the Generate button tells you that this action counts toward your monthly AI usage allowance.
It won't be possible to generate content if your organization has reached its monthly AI request allowance. In this case, Generate will be grayed out. For information about how to track your organization's AI usage, see this article.
If your organization has defined custom instructions or guidelines for AI-generated content, they are applied on top of the survey generation settings.
The amount of time it takes to generate the survey depends on the amount and complexity of the content you provide.
As a result:
- AI generates a survey with a title, description, and survey questions.
- The generated survey is automatically added to the current course.
- The generated survey remains fully editable.
- You can add, edit, regenerate, or delete survey questions.
- The number of generated questions may be lower than requested, depending on the amount of source content provided.
- After generating and reviewing the survey content, configure the same settings available for any manually created course-level survey.
What AI generates
AI-generated surveys collect meaningful learner feedback about course experiences and outcomes.
AI can generate questions that focus on areas such as:
- Course relevance
- Content clarity
- Learner satisfaction
- Perceived usefulness
- Applicability of the learning
- Course structure and pacing
- Suggestions for improvement.
AI generates feedback-oriented survey questions.
It doesn't generate knowledge-check questions such as:
- "What is the correct definition of..."
- "Which of the following is true...".
Review and edit AI-generated content
You are responsible for reviewing generated content and making any necessary adjustments before using the survey with learners.
On the Questions tab, you can:
- Edit individual question titles, descriptions, and answer options. Select
(the Edit icon) and edit the details.
- Delete generated questions. Select
(the Delete icon).
- Reorder the questions using drag and drop.
- Add more questions with AI assistance. For more information, see Add more questions with AI assistance.
- Add manually created questions alongside generated questions. Select the required question type in the left-hand section and enter the details.
On the Settings tab, you can edit the generated survey title and description.
On both the Questions and Settings tabs, you can regenerate specific elements using AI. For more information, see Generate individual survey elements with AI.
Add more questions with AI assistance
Whether you’re creating a survey or editing an existing one, you can add and edit AI-generated questions.
On either the Create survey or Edit survey panel, you can add more survey questions manually, or with AI assistance. To add more questions with AI assistance:
1. Select AI assistance in the left-hand section.
2. Follow the steps in Generate surveys with AI to add more questions.
The generated questions are added to the draft survey.
Generate individual survey elements with AI
AI assistance is available for individual survey fields, allowing you to generate or enhance content without regenerating the entire survey.
You can use AI assistance for:
- Survey Name
- Survey Description
- Question Title
- Question Text
To generate content for any of these fields:
1. Open the survey and navigate to the relevant field.
2. Select (the magic wand icon) next to the field.
3. Review the generated content.
4. Edit the generated content if required.
5. Save your changes.

Languages supported by AI
The AI-powered assistant understands languages that are supported by Microsoft. Generated content can be in the same language as the content you provided or a different one.
AI might generate content in an unexpected language if you provided content in several languages or if you provided insufficient content.
